Last Thursday I had the great pleasure to enjoy the company of the City’s Pioneers.
Pioneers Afternoon Tea gives us the opportunity to acknowledge the people who have been a major part of our development over 50 years or more.
Each year I talk about a piece of our history and this year it was the celebration of the ce
ntenary of our Town Hall.
Over the years the Town Hall has been silent witness to meetings, rallies and even Council offices!
Its refurbishment over the last decade has seen a return to the splendour of the original building.
During this year we have replicated some of the functions that were held in the Hall so many years ago, such as the picture shows and exhibitions.
We will continue to run such events in the years to come.
Our future is based on the foundations of the past and those who came before us.
Our Pioneers are very much a part of that past, as well as the present.
As the Mayor of this City, and on behalf of my fellow Councillors, I would like to thank each and every one of our Pioneers for their contribution over many years, and in many ways, to the fabric of our City.
It is people such as them who truly make a municipality a community.
We thank you
