Advisory Groups to the City of Canning Council

 

What are Advisory Groups

Advisory Groups are made up of primarily business and community representatives, with support from staff administration.  Advisory Groups provide:

  • Ÿ             Advice and recommendations to Council on key issues and opportunities on a particular topic.
  • Ÿ             Assist Council in the development of policy, strategies and actions to opportunities and issues.
  • Ÿ             Advocate for increased awareness and understanding of issues and opportunities of a particular topic.
  • Ÿ             Assist Council with its communication, consultation and engagement with relevant stakeholders.
  • Ÿ             Assist Council to monitor the implementation of an area specific plan or strategy.

The City has established three Advisory Groups as follows, with Membership to those Groups as detailed below:

Business Advisory Group

The objectives of the Business Advisory Group are to:

  • Provide a reference point to the focus areas of the Economic Development Strategy
  • Ensure that a key sector of the community is provided with an appropriate communication mechanism
  • Provide strategic advice to the City; and in turn Council, on issues that affect the business community; and
  • Raise the profile of the business community in Council activities and planning.

Community Advisory Group

The objectives of the Community Advisory Group are:

  • Broadly represent community views on matters brought before the CAG;
  • Raise issues and opportunities which relate to the community; and
  • Provide advice to the City, and in turn Council, on issues affecting the community.

Young people wanted

The City of Canning would like to hear from stakeholders and community members who can represent Young People on our Community Advisory Group. The Advisory Group was launched earlier this year with the purpose to provide regular input and feedback in regards to the City of Canning’s activities.

It is incredibly important that we have representation from all sections of our community, so that we may ensure our initiatives are inclusive for all. Sustainability and Environment Advisory Group

The objectives of the Sustainability and Environment Group are to:

  • Provide strategic advice to the City, and in turn Council, on issues that affect the natural and built areas of the City.
  • Raise the profile of sustainability and the environment in Council activities and planning.
  • Advocate for sustainability principles and the conservation of natural areas.
  • Promote environmental best practice.
  • Consider and recommend options for future projects and initiatives that will enhance organisational and community sustainability and environmental conservation.
