We're now in the third year of our playground renewals. We've already upgraded a massive 25 playgrounds, with four more on the way in 2022-23.
Playgrounds are important. They can assist in developing a child’s strength, coordination and balance as well as other qualities such as social skills, imagination, creativity and problem-solving.
For play to positively impact a child’s development, the elements supporting the play should be of high quality. We are committed to providing playgrounds that offer a high-quality play experience for local kids.
That commitment extends to more than just the play equipment on offer. It takes into consideration how we can make getting there, playing and staying an easy and enjoyable experience for all.
You have asked for there to be a focus on more nature and adventure play, more inclusive and accessible play spaces, and better shade. You told us what you wanted for your local playgrounds, and we're continuing to deliver on that feedback.
Playgrounds to be upgraded this financial year are:
- Alderley Park (Wilson)
- Brolga Park (Willetton)
- Burrendah Park (Willetton)
- Ritson Park (Parkwood).
What is all this guided by? Based on community feedback, and a review of our current playgrounds, we developed our Play Provision Strategy - our plan for playgrounds and play spaces over the next 20 years.
The Strategy aims to make the City's playgrounds appropriate, fun, stimulating and more accessible for everyone. Click here to read the full Strategy.
