FAQs

Who can apply?
The expression of interest for public art in Willetton Sports Precinct is open to all Australian professional artists and artist groups.

If an artist/s is short listed, they must be able to attend a briefing and present their concept in person.

If successfully award a contract, the artist/s must be able to manage the artwork in person on site as needed, to the City required timelines, and be available for media opportunities.

What artwork is required?
Artwork will feature on a mural, streetscape paving, artistic elements in a Community Piazza and skateboard safety screens in a street style skate plaza.

If you have already submitted a EOI, you can amend and resubmit, if needed.

What is the objective of the artworks?
The City of Canning is looking for artwork that will:
  • provide visual cohesion to the precinct
  • consider the Landscape Master Plan, buildings, paving and landscaping and the cultural and social values of this place
  • be durable and require minimal maintenance.
Is there a theme for the artworks?
Theme:   Movement ‐   Journey through life.
Underlying values:  inclusiveness, access, health and wellness, multicultural and all ages.  

Is the artwork going to be permanent?
Yes. All artworks will be permanent features of the Willetton Sports Precinct.

Can I visit the site now?
Yes. Willetton Sports Precinct is open to the public and can be visited at any time. The area is a public reserve and fully functioning sports precinct. If visiting, please observe COVID‐19 safety measures and have respect for other users.

What is the selection process?
EOI submissions will be assessed by an evaluation panel comprised of representatives from the City of Canning, the contracted Willetton Sports Precinct landscape architect and art consultant.

Evaluation of the submissions will result in the selection of three artists for each project who will be commissioned ($1,200 +GST) to provide a design concept. Evaluation of these concepts and a face-to-face presentation from the artist/s to the evaluation panel will result in the selection of a successful artist/s and commission for the artwork for each project.
