Little Green Steps WA (LGSWA) are working within the City of Canning’s community networks as both a sustainability resource and education provider to support childcare centres, pre-schools, playgroups, family daycares and after school early years educators to engage in education for sustainability in their local environments.

Nearer to Nature Environment and Sustainability Education Program
The City of Canning has partnered with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions' Nearer to Nature program to deliver Australian curriculum outcomes to students across the primary and secondary sector (K-12) through the Canning River Eco Education Centre (CREEC). CREEC offers excursions, self-guided trails, special events, professional learning and resources.

Community Sustainability Learning Program
The Canning River Eco Education Centre (CREEC) has a reinvigorated sustainability learning program, designed to enhance regional community engagement, capacity building and lifelong learning. Through our Community Sustainability Learning Program the City delivers sustainability learning content for the Canning community related to our city-wide sustainability principles and targets.

The City of Canning is pleased to invite Expressions of Interest from sustainability professionals and educators, sustainability and environment related community groups, local business and social enterprise and others to be part of the Community Sustainability Learning Program.
We know that, within our community, and the wider WA sustainability community, there is a vibrant cohort of skilled and engaging sustainability practitioners and educators – and as such, rather than delivering our community learning program ourselves – we commit to facilitating the delivery of a curated, but community-designed learning program.

The Switched on Schools initiative is run by Switch Your Thinking and aims to celebrate sustainability actions undertaken in schools. As a Switch Your Thinking member, the City is able to recognise and promote the efforts of a Switched on School within the area.

Young Re-Inventor of the Year Competition
The Young Re-Inventor of the Year initiative is run by Switch Your Thinking and funded by the Waste Authority through the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Account. As a Switch Your Thinking member, individuals, community groups, primary and secondary schools and early learning centres within the City of Canning can apply for the initiative.
Young people solve problems and put their creativity to the test in this exciting initiative that encourages participants to reuse, repurpose and upcycle before throwing away.
This initiative opens in May and closes in October each year.

Climate Clever Neighbourhoods Project
The City of Canning has partnered with Climate Clever, Grow It Local, Behaviour Change Collaborative and Switch Your Thinking to deliver the Climate Clever Neighbourhoods Project. This pilot project aims to increase the awareness of residents around their environmental impacts and support them in efforts to mitigate these (specifically energy / water / waste) as well as encourage community engagement, neighbourhood scale sharing economies and local food production.
Sustainability and Environment Advisory Group (SEAG)
The Sustainability and Environment Advisory Group (SEAG) is a key source of advice and support to the Council and relevant program areas, and represents the community on issues of sustainability and environmental importance in Canning. Individuals, representatives of community groups and local businesses with sustainability and environment related interests and expertise are encouraged to apply.

The Rewards for Residents initiative is run by Switch Your Thinking and supports residents in making their home more sustainable. Subsidised Equipment Initiative
The City of Canning is offering residents workshops and subsidies on composting and worm farming equipment in an effort to aid our community in recovering valuable resources and reducing the amount of organics sent to landfill. By helping residents compost their food scraps and garden material we can help you create healthy and water wise gardens, and reduce carbon emissions from landfill.
