National Day of Mourning for Her Majesty The Queen

The City of Canning offers its condolences to the Royal Family, the people of the United Kingdom and all the nations of the Commonwealth, on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

For 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II reigned as Australia’s Head of State. During her reign, The Queen visited Australia 16 times, first visiting Western Australia in 1954 as a 27-year-old, with her last visit in 2011 at age 85. Visiting every state and territory, she saw more of this country than most Australians.

During her time The Queen consulted with 16 Prime Ministers and 16 Governors-General served in her name. She was also the patron of more than 20 Australian charities and associations, capturing the hearts and minds of many.

On Thursday 22 September, the National Day of Mourning for Her Majesty The Queen, we encourage all residents to pause and reflect. You can commemorate The Queen by visiting Government House and signing the condolence book, watching a televised service, attending a local service or signing the online condolence book.

Wharf St Basin Next Generation Community Park and the Town Hall will be lit up in purple to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II. Also, the flags are at half-mast at the Civic & Administration building as per Commonwealth flag flying protocols.
