Our Nearer to Nature school holiday programs at the Canning River Eco Education Centre provide unique, enjoyable activities that help children discover intriguing natural areas. 

During the school holidays, fun, hands-on activities bring kids of all ages up close and personal with the natural environment.

Nearer to Nature’s overall aim is to increase the community’s environmental awareness, knowledge and skills, including the related heritage of Indigenous and European cultures.

Winged Warriors

Swamp Dwellers Discovery

1.00 - 3.30pm, ages 8 – 12 years

Become a scientist as you search for fascinating swamp dwellers. Identify tiny aquatic macroinvertebrates and determine what creates a suitable habitat. Create a scientific drawing of your critter.

Enchanted River Environment

Join Faerie Cara on a journey of discovery through our enchanted riverine environment. Take a walk along the river’s edge and look closely to find something magical to discover how looking after nature is good for everyone.

The Great Canoe Challenge

Tuesday 22 January

10.30am – 3.30pm, ages 13 – 16 years

In teams of 2-3 in canoes, head out onto the river and learn the basics of canoeing. Compete in on-water challenges while exploring the beautiful riverine environment.

Canoodling on the Canning for Adults

Saturday 16 February

4.00 – 7.30pm, age 18+
