An exciting, energetic outfit specialising in dance-oriented, tradition-based southern African music. Sharing a deep passion for rhythm, melody and traditional African music, this Fremantle-based group will take you on a musical journey interweaving the melodic richness of the Zimbabwean mbira (thumb piano) and marimba music, the expressive Tama (talking drum) of Senegal, and the raw energy of the West African DunDun and djembe drum ensembles – a celebration of life and human culture, the fabric that unites us all.
Bomba Latin Fusion
Brings the musical colours of contemporary Latin America to WA. Integrating a repertoire of latin pop, rock, reggae, Afro-Cuban roots, dance, funk & soul, a selection from Latino legends, just in the same way you will hear it in any South American festival. Contagious percussive beats are naturally made to dance; sang in Spanish, English and Portuguese; energetic and fun.
The Nueva Salsa Orchestra
Are an energetic band that specialises in Cuban, Columbian and New York salsa – in fact, we’re pretty sure they’re one of the hottest salsa bands this side of Havana. With a repertoire consisting of high energy salsas, mambos and cha-chas, they’re guaranteed to get your body moving to the infectious rhythms of their percussion section, dazzling horns, jumping piano and bass grooves, and the vocal talents of Adolfo Chavez.
Our incredible headline act for the evening. Grace’s soulful music reflects and celebrates the diverse cultural influences of her Indian Ocean heritage.Grace Barbe hails from the sunburnt Indian Ocean islands of the Seychelles, where a colourful history of slavery, pirates, coups d'etat and coconuts have produced a unique Kreol rhythm, language and culture. Drawing from the diverse cultural melange of the islands, Grace's trio fuses the tropical rhythms and dances of the slaves with psychedelic rock, afrobeat, reggae and pop. Conjuring a bewilderingly huge sound, the musical ESP between bassist Grace and younger sister Joelle Barbe (drums) must be seen to be believed. Guitarist Jamie Searle adds a dense layer of Afro - guitar sorcery.
