New Years Day Concert & Fireworks

Celebrate the start of 2020 at the City’s annual New Years Day Concert & Fireworks!

A free, family friendly event alongside the iconic and picturesque Canning river with plenty of entertainment all day long.

Bring your own picnic and seatingfill your tummies with delicious food from over 20 food trucks and entertain the kids with some incredible games and fun. There will be roving entertainment and some fantastic live music and performances.

The evening wouldn’t be complete without a dazzling display of fireworks brought to you by Cardile Fireworks, bringing the event to a close at 8.30pm.

To better care for the residents of Shelley, the City has implemented a new Traffic Management Plan which will involve the closure of selected roads from 12pm - 9pm. These roads will only be accessible to residents showing proof of address. Only residents within the closure may apply/have their visitor's apply for a Visitor Permit. You may apply online for Visitor Permit's right up to the end of the event if you wish!

What do I bring?

Feel free to bring picnic rugs, chairs and even small marquees/shade. (Note that there will be zones to allow all to see the stage and fireworks show. Marquees will be directed towards the sides of the site, with low chairs and picnic rugs towards the front, plus a designated dance area in front of the stage. Please adhere to these zones).

Bring along your own picnic food and beverages, just avoid glass where possible.

You are welcome to pack your own alcoholic drinks too, however given this is a family event we do ask you to drink responsibly. WA Police and Security will be on site ensuring the safety of all patrons. There will be no bar on site this year.

How do I get to the event?


  1. Utilise the overflow car park on Riverton Drive - only accessible via corner Riverton Drive North and Modillion Avenue (see above map).​ Please note due to large masses of pedestrian traffic this car park will not be opened until at least 20 minutes after the end of the fireworks. We appreciate your patience.

Visit www.transperth.wa.gov.au and plan your journey to a number of bus stops within the Shelley area.


Catch the free shuttle bus between Centenary Park (off Centenary Avenue, Wilson) and the event zone.
Buses will run continuously between 3.30pm – 9pm with stops every 15 mins to the event zone.
Centenary Park is easily accessible from Leach Highway and has ample parking facilities including ACROD bays.​​

On demand transport vehicles

On demand transport services (such as taxis, Uber, Ola, Chofer, Shebah and other vehicle charter companies) may drop off only via corner Riverton Drive North and Modillion Avenue and loop back at Watersby Crescent.​

Is the event accessible?

ACROD parking and accessible toilets are available. The site features are accessible by footpath.


Due to the large crowd numbers and excessive noise at the event, we do ask that you leave your fur babies at home. 

First Aid

St John Ambulance will be onsite if you require medical attention. Surf Life Saving will also be set up by the jetty to assist where required.

Lost children

Our local State Emergency Services will be present on site helping with lost children. You can find them in the big orange tent by the toilet block, or walking around the event in uniform. Alternatively, a designated Events Officer will remain in the Kid's Zone, plus Events crew on site.

Lost property

Lost property will be collected and stored with the onsite Events Team. Any lost property not collected will be available at the City of Canning Civic Centre and you can ring us on Thursday to see if we have your lost items.


In the event of bad weather, please check the City of Canning Facebook page where we will update you with any changes or cancellations. You can also subscribe to any updates by selecting 'Going' or 'Interested' on the Facebook event.


There will be no ATM on site, but all of our vendors have EFTPOS facilities if you are looking to purchase food and drink.

Photography and Videography​

We will have event photographers and videographers documenting the event. If you do not want your photo taken, please let the camera person know.​

Items not allowed on Shelley Foreshore

For safety reasons please do not bring large objects (greater than 1.5m) into the event zone 

Drones are not permitted to fly over populous areas so please don’t bring your drone to the New Years Day celebrations. For more information visit www.casa.gov.au.
