Building contractor selected for Hillview Intercultural and Community Centre

The City of Canning Council has chosen a building contractor to refurbish the Hillview Intercultural and Community Centre, which once complete, will provide a dedicated facility catering to the City’s culturally-diverse community.

BE Projects WA was awarded the contract to complete the works at 1-3 Hill View Place in Bentley which will include a fit-out of three activity rooms, a multipurpose hall, computer lab and a commercial kitchen.

Recognising that there was currently no local government-managed intercultural and community facility for residents in the South eastern corridor of the City - Mayor Patrick Hall welcomed the majority decision made by Council last night.

“The City has identified a golden opportunity for activating the local centre and nearby park to meet the diverse needs of current and future communities in the area,” Mayor Hall said.

“The Hillview Intercultural and Community Centre will be an inclusive space available for use and hire by community groups and associations in the southern metropolitan area, providing a central meeting place for celebrating all cultures.”

The Intercultural and Community Centre forms a key component of the City’s Hillview Hub Master Plan, which includes an upgrade to Hillview and Fitzpatrick parks; and improvements to the road network and neighbouring streetscapes.

“The refurbishment of the building is just the beginning for the Hillview Hub, which has the potential to become the cultural beating heart of Bentley,” Mayor Hall said, “I’m looking forward with anticipation to seeing it brought to life this year.”

Works will commence in April this year, with completion due in December.
