Kent Street Weir on course for a new BMX track

26 May 2022
The BMX pump track at Kent Street Weir is on course for a facelift with works now underway to upgrade the track and surrounding landscaping, expected to be complete by September this year.

The project is the next round of works to be complete as outlined in the Kent Street Weir Precinct Plan adopted by Council in 2020.

The asphalt track will be suitable for BMX riders, skateboarders, and scooters of varying skill levels.

Surrounding landscaping works include installing turfing, irrigation, a gate, a drink fountain, and seating along with tree and shrub planting.

Mayor Patrick Hall said the new pump track will be another investment to support the recreational pursuits of young people in the City of Canning.

“Upgrading and maintaining recreational infrastructure is important to the City of Canning as we understand the importance of providing well-equipped recreational areas to keep young people engaged and moving.

“The new track will progress the Kent Street Weir Precinct Plan which looks to enhance the area further to accommodate the needs of residents and visitors,” he said.

Works on the new track will occur Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm and during this time there may be minimal impact to adjacent pedestrians, bike riders and drivers.

The Kent Street Weir BMX pump track follows another recently completed track at Canning Vale Oval which was funded by an Australian Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure grant.

Queens Park Open Space is also earmarked for a pump track, due for construction next year.
