City of Canning residents can nominate and celebrate their local community heroes with nominations for the Auspire – Australia Day Council Western Australia, Community Citizen of the Year Awards now open.
The Community Citizen of the Year Awards gives us the opportunity to celebrate the positive impact of individuals and groups who are engaged and committed to our local area. Whether they are a nominee or recipient, we can all celebrate their outstanding contribution, because we’re all part of the story.
Recognising local heroes for more than 20 years, the Awards are made up of four categories:
• Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals over 16 years)
• Young Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 16-30 years)
• Senior Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 65 years and over)
• Active Citizenship (for community groups or events)
Nominations can be made for contributions to education, health, fundraising, voluntary services, business, sports, arts, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that enhances the wellbeing of our community. For the full criteria, visit
