The City of Canning’s Supported Accommodation Service provides housing and support to people with an intellectual disability.

Supported Accommodation

Who are we?

The City’s Disability Services has been assisting the Canning community since 1992 with the provision of supported accommodation for people with intellectual disability.

We provide quality accommodation within the City of Canning to people with a low to moderate level of intellectual disability.

We can offer support with:

  • Assistance with everyday activities
  • Access to recreational activities
  • Skills training in budget management and shopping
  • Transport to medical appointments
  • Property maintenance
  • Connecting with the local community
  • Access training, volunteer or paid work

We also support and encourage involvement of family, friends and the community. We are committed to working closely with service users and families in the development of individualised support plans that focus on learning new skills and maintaining an individual’s level of independence.

The City of Canning has a range of accommodation options centrally located within the community. All homes are within easy access of public transport and offer single or multiple occupancy.

We take the time to get to know the individual and learn about their interests and plans for the future. Through this process we aim to ensure that the individual is compatibly matched with a co-resident with whom they will share their home.

Trained support staff may assist residents on a daily basis with skills training in areas such as: communication, meal planning, shopping, budgeting, transport and social activities.
