It is important to think of your car like a shop window. If you can see valuables left inside your car, then so can a thief!

The City of Canning is encouraging residents to help make it hard for thieves by always removing their valuables from motor vehicles. It can take less than 60 seconds for a person to steal from a vehicle

The City of Canning recommends you:

  • Take your valuables with you or keep them out of sight.
  • Lock your car before you go.
  • Never leave keys in door locks or the ignition.
  • Never hide keys anywhere on your car.
  • Park in a secure and well-lit area – off the street, behind lockable gates or in a locked garage if possible.

The Gone in Less than 60 seconds campaign aims to raise community awareness of how quickly theft from motor vehicles can happen.

The City of Canning with support of WA Police, are working with local governments from the South East Metro District to develop and deliver the 'Gone is Less Than 60 seconds' (GILT60s) campaign.

As part of the campaign, a clearly marked vehicle will be visiting local shopping centres, community events and hot spot locations, displaying items commonly targeted by opportunistic thieves, such as mobile phones, tablets and cash.

For further information about the initiative, please contact the City’s Safe Communities team on 1300 422 664 or submit an online enquiry.
