A great way to help build connected and happy communities, Neighbourhood Watch is a community safety awareness program aimed at reducing the incidence of opportunistic crime, protecting your property and preserving your way of life through communication and cooperation between neighbours.

Neighbours are your most valuable security asset. They can keep an eye on your property and report any suspicious behaviour, fostering a sense of unity and safety.

A police officer on patrol may not know what is normal in your street and may not recognise a stranger in your yard. You, in conjunction with your neighbours, are in the best position to notice when something unusual is happening in your area and report any suspicious or criminal activity to police.

How you can support Neighbourhood Watch

  • Be informed, be aware and be safe
  • Report all suspicious behaviour and criminal activity to police immediately on 131 444
  • Get to know your neighbours and communicate regularly
  • Display Neighbourhood Watch stickers to help deter would-be thieves
  • Evaluate and improve the safety and security of your home. The City of Canning’s Community Safety Handbook  and Safer Homes brochure provide a variety of relevant and useful information
  • Mark all items of value for identification. Engraving kits can be borrowed from all City of Canning libraries at no cost or contact the City of Canning to enquire about the availability of permanent invisible ink markers ( Property Marking Kits )
  • Consider becoming an active Neighbourhood Watch volunteer and support the City of Canning and WA Police by participating in local community safety promotions. Like to know more? Please contact the Community Safety Liaison Officers on 1300 422 664 or email Safe.Communities@canning.wa.gov.au.
