Are there age restrictions for the sessions?

Yes, Canning Libraries programs for families have specific focus areas to support early development, encourage social connections and ensure safety. Available programs are arranged as follows:

*the above sessions run during school terms.
Additional activities are available for school-age children and young adults during school holiday periods.

Am I able to leave my child and return at the end of the session?

No, these sessions are focussed on the connection between you and your child in their early learning.
We are dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming environment for people of all ages.
For our youngest members, guidelines are in place to ensure their safety. Responsibility for monitoring the safety of children in the library, primarily rests with the parent/caregiver.

  • children under the age of 13 years must be supervised by a guardian at all times while in a City of Canning Library (siblings 16 years + are deemed suitable to supervise).
  • we ask guardians to remain with children under the age of 8 in activity areas for the duration of events.
  • children who do not meet the required age for specific activities/events may have their ticket cancelled.

What are the differences between the Play 'n Learn sessions?

Each session has a different focus and different activities to guide development in these areas. Learn more about individual sessions and their core themes here.

What if I am running late or my child is unwell?

Please do not attend sessions if you or your child are unwell. If you are running late please phone the library your session is being hosted at to advise staff, and we will accommodate late arrivals where possible. If you do not arrive for the booked session we may offer your place to another family in the library.

Can I give feedback about the sessions?

Yes! A survey can be completed to give feedback on the sessions. Alternatively, you can email your feedback/suggestions to library.services@canning.wa.gov.au.
