School holiday programs at the Canning River Eco Education Centre provide unique, enjoyable activities that help children discover our natural areas.

During the school holidays, fun activities bring kids of all ages up close and personal with the natural environment. 
These community programs are brought to you by Know Your Patch, Nearer to Nature and River Guardians. Each activity provides hands-on opportunities for kids and adults to discover and explore more about their local environments.

Whoo's Who 
9.30 - 11.00am, ages 4 - 7
Tawny frogmouths and owls are both incredible creatures with very similar looking features, but just who is who? Learn more about the characteristics of our feathered friends and discover how to tell the difference between these contrasting species. Join in on puzzles, spot the difference and a special up-close encounter. With Nearer to Nature.

Science Gone Wild
1.00 - 3.30pm, ages 7-12
Discover a slimy defence, exploding rockets and secret signals. Find out how nature works with a series of hands on activities and experiments. Let loose the mad scientist within! With Nearer to Nature.

River Roaming 
9.30 - 11.00am, ages 3 - 6
The river is teaming with life at this time of year and there are so many things to discover! Join us for a roam around the river to learn about some of the important plants and animals that call this place home. Use your senses to really explore what’s growing and living around us, you never know what we might find if we look more closely, listen more carefully, stop to smell the flowers and feel the textures of the environment around us! With River Guardians.

Wetland Wildlife Investigators
12.30 - 2.30pm, ages 7-12
Our urban wetlands are some of the most important habitats in the world. Surrounded by houses and human activities, these wetlands provide a refuge for a huge range of wildlife. Come along for an exploration of Canning River where everything from birds to reptiles, fish, amphibians and bugs call this place home. Together, we will investigate this incredible habitat, look for clues, play games and complete challenges to find out exactly what species are living here and how we can protect them! With River Guardians.
