Exercise is necessary for your physical and mental wellbeing, however it can sometimes be hard to get going, especially after a long time away!

The best time to get started on a pathway to improving your physical and mental wellbeing was yesterday. The second best time is right now.... Don't quit! We are here to help with some steps below:

All Fitness and Leisureplex Plus Memberships include free programming and appraisals. Talk with our friendly gym staff to book a suitable day and time and we’ll assess your current goals and fitness level, and then design a program to help you meet those goals. Whether you undergo a fitness appraisal or programming appointment or not, our gym staff are always available to help with any questions. Needing help with how to use a certain piece of equipment, or to help with form assessment and correction? Our staff have a wealth of knowledge to share with you and are always available to assist. Just ask! 
Don't be hard on yourself if you haven't been active for a while. It's to be expected that your fitness level won't be the same as it was before your break. The key is to slowly establish a new routine. Gradually increase the frequency and time you spend exercising, as well as the repetitions or intensity level.

Once you're back in a regular pattern, you should start to see improvement within a few weeks. Our gym staff can help by developing a progressive program that evolves as your fitness level increases. Don’t forget that this programming is free!

It's to be expected that your fitness level won't be the same as it was before you took a break. And we're all that bit older now too...

Be sure to work with your trainer to set realistic goals that fit in with your work and personal life.
After a long time away, it's important to be kind to yourself. There are so many ways you could reward yourself as an incentive to keep working out! After a session in the gym, spend some relaxing time in the spa, or attend a Yoga or Body Balance class?

​Here are some other ways to reward yourself:
- A coffee at the café and a catch up with friends
- Some quiet time reading a book
- Catching up on a few of your favourite TV shows or a movie
- Shopping for some new workout clothes.

The important thing is to get started, be realistic with your goals and embrace the support we provide. Your ultimate aim should be to establish and maintain a balanced and rewarding routine. We are here to help you do just that!

Your membership becomes active again from our opening time on the day after you nominated your suspension or timestop to end. This happens automatically - you don't need to do anything else.
