Exercise is necessary for your physical and mental wellbeing, however it can sometimes be hard to get going, especially after a long time away!
The best time to get started on a pathway to improving your physical and mental wellbeing was yesterday. The second best time is right now.... Don't quit! We are here to help with some steps below:
1. Make an appointment with one of our trainers
All Fitness and Leisureplex Plus Memberships include free programming and appraisals. Talk with our friendly gym staff to book in a suitable day and time and we’ll assess your current goals and fitness level, and then design a program to help you meet those goals. Phone 6350 7300 for Cannington or 9231 0900 for Riverton to book an appointment, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll call you.
With or without undergoing a fitness appraisal or programming appointment, gym staff are always available to help with any questions you may have such as how to use a certain piece of equipment, or to help with form assessment and correction. Our staff have a wealth of knowledge to share with you and are more than happy to assist. Just ask!
2. Take it slowly
Don't be hard on yourself if you haven't been active for a while. It's to be expected your fitness level won't be the same as it was before your break. The key is to slowly and surely re-establish a new routine. Gradually increase the frequency and time you spend exercising, as well as the repetitions and/or intensity level.
Once you're in a regular pattern, you should see start to see improvement within a few weeks. Our Gym staff can help by providing progressive programming that evolves as your fitness level increases. Don’t forget too that this programming is free!
3. Track your progress
We encourage you to download the GetActiveCanning App, it will help you get the most out of your gym and fitness experience!
The GetActiveCanning app is where your program is stored so you don't have to remember each piece of equipment or how to use it, the number of repetitions or the weight. It also allows you to track other activities you do outside of the gym. Access is provided to our group fitness timetable, as well as direct links to our online class booking and membership management portal. There are a heap of free workouts and pre-recorded fitness classes available too! No matter where you are, the GetActiveCanning app has got your fitness needs covered.
Click here to see the range of other features as well as links to Google Play and the App Store so you can download and start using the app now. It’s free!
4. Be realistic
It's to be expected your fitness level won't be the same as it was before the break. And we're all that bit older now too.
Work with your trainer to set realistic goals that meet your work and personal life.
5. Reward yourself
After a long time away, it's important to be kind to yourself. There are so many ways you could reward yourself as an incentive to working out! After a session in the gym, perhaps you could spend some relaxing time in the spa, or attend a Yoga or Body Balance class?
Here are some other ways to reward yourself:
- A coffee at the café and a catch up with friends
- Some quiet time reading a book
- Catching up on a few of your favourite TV shows or a movie
- Shopping for some new workout clothes.
The important thing is to get started, be realistic with your goals and embrace the support we provide. Your ultimate aim should be to establish and maintain a balanced and rewarding ongoing routine. We are hre to help you do just that!
We look forward to seeing you again soon!
