Our female swimming and wellness sessions are available in a private, safe and enjoyable environment.
Women’s Only Swimming Lessons will be back at Cannington Leisureplex in term 4, 2020!
Why Women Only?
In early 2016 it was recognised that many female community members were unable to participate in an aquatic environment where males were present, whether for social, cultural or religious reasons.
In 2017 the City of Canning introduced the opportunity to provide women of all ages and abilities to experience swimming and aquatic recreation in a private, social and supportive environment together, demonstrating the City's leadership in embedding inclusion, a sense of belonging, and ensuring equitable access to aquatic programs for all community members.
Women Only Swimming Lessons
The City of Canning has long been in partnership with Royal Lifesaving Society WA (RLSSWA). This relationship has facilitated swimming and water safety education for culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) communities since 2012 and participation in these lessons at Cannington Leisureplex continues to increase each term.
One former participant of these lessons, Titisari, went on to become qualified as a swimming instructor and now teaches at Cannington Leisureplex.
CaLD Swimming Lessons
We are proud to partner with Royal Life Saving Society of WA which conducts a number of swimming lessons for people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds.
Last year over 500 people participated in CaLD specific swimming lessons held in the City.
