Pool Lifeguards are the backbone of Aquatic Operations at the Cannington and Riverton Leisureplex facilities, proactively overseeing the safe use of pools and responding to emergency and first aid situations, as well as a range of other incidents.
Lifeguarding can be the beginning of a rewarding career in the aquatics and recreation industry. Experienced lifeguards can gain a Swimming Pool Operator’s certification that may lead to experience in plant operations, project, staff and facility management roles.
Starting your career and becoming a lifeguard is easy for anyone 16 years and older!
Royal Life Saving Society WA holds courses all year round and there are two pathways to become qualified:
- 4 Day Pool Lifeguard Course (no previous training required)
- 2 Day Pool Lifeguard Course (must hold a current Provide First Aid certification)
If you are a qualified lifeguard wishing to undertake practical hours after receiving your certificate, please email an Expression of Interest to
employment@canning.wa.gov.au. A member of the People & Culture team will provide you with a request form and instructions to request a work experience placement.
