Working to help the City of Canning plan for future growth, the Local Planning Strategy is a key strategic urban land use document. It works to set out the City’s objectives for future planning through a broad framework of coordinated, sustainable developments.

In keeping consistent with urban planning documents such as Perth and Peel@3.5million, the Strategy considers resource management; environmental, economic and social issues; census data and community input. It provides the basis for zoning and other requirements in Local Planning Scheme No. 42.

In acknowledging the Local Planning Strategy as a comprehensive document, the City developed sub-strategies forming key themes of the strategy including:

Final Local Planning Strategy was adopted at 20 June 2017 by Council and 24 October 2017 by the Western Australian Planning Commission.
