Aircraft noise is an important issue for our community. Perth Airport is located near to the City of Canning and aircraft noise does impact heavily on those suburbs under the flightpaths.
Perth Airport Community Forum (PACF)
The Perth Airport Community Forum (PACF) provides the opportunity for all members of the community to speak directly with staff from Perth Airport, Airservices Australia and other related agencies in attendance. The Forums are held quarterly.

Who is responsible for aircraft noise management?
Perth Airport has direct control over the management of ground-based aircraft noise. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is responsible for the administration and regulation of Australian-administered airspace. Airservices Australia is the agency responsible for managing the airspace around Perth Airport, including the design of flight paths, as well as the management of noise generated from aircraft approaching or departing Perth Airport.
What role does the City of Canning play?
The City is a member of the Perth Airports Municipalities Group (PAMG) and although not a public forum, the PAMG encourages input from the local community through its member councils. The Group’s focus is to engage stakeholders in effective dialogue to raise mutual awareness of the impacts of airport operations and developments on the local community and vice versa and where possible, seek acceptable outcomes which foster the co-existence of communities and airports.

The City’s Town Planning Scheme has within it a “Special Control Area,” that contains specific provisions for development proposed within the 20 ANEF Contour. The development or use of premises in the Perth Airport Buffer Special Control Area for the purposes of a single house on a lot requires a planning approval. Applications for planning approval must be accompanied by a statement or report which demonstrates that the development achieves all of the relevant policy measures under the State Planning Policy No. 5.1 – Land Use Planning in the Vicinity of Perth Airport.
The City lodged a submission to Perth Airport Pty Ltd, in 2014 on the Perth Airport Master Plan, which can be viewed here.
The City is a representative of the Jandakot Airport Community Consultation Group.
