Canning Libraries will be participating in Children’s Book Week®, an event supported by supported by the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA).
From Saturday 22 August to Friday 28 August 2026 and beyond, we have an exciting program of events planned to celebrate the joy of reading for children of all ages.
This year's Book Week theme is Symphony of Stories, celebrating the way stories connect, inspire and bring communities together through imagination, creativity and shared experiences.
The City of Canning Libraries team will be running a week of free programs for the community.
Events include:
- Funny Bones – The (F)art of Writing Funny Stuff with Steve Herron (ages 9-11) – Saturday 22 August, 10am - 11am at Cannington Library
- Dragon Tears Creative Workshop with Steve Herron (ages 8-10) - Saturday 22 August, 11.30am - 12pm at Cannington Library
- Design your own EVA Foam Shield with PlaybyProxy (ages 11-17) - Saturday 22 August 12.30pm -3.30pm at Riverton Library
- Explore Writing Workshop, Deb Fitzpatrick (ages 7-10) - Monday 24 August 3.30pm - 4.30pm at Willetton Library
- Storytime and Craft with Narelle Wynter: I'd Rather Eat Chocolate (ages 6-8) - Tuesday 25 August, 3.30pm - 4.30pm at Hillview Intercultural Centre
- Storytime with Sandra Ruddie and Lockie the Dog (ages 3-6) - Thursday 27 August, 3.30pm - 4.30pm at Cannington Library
