Learn about the saltmarshes in the Canning River tidal flats.
Did you know there’s a nature-based solution to help mitigate climate change right next to you? It’s Blue Carbon - the carbon stored in vegetated coastal ecosystems like tidal saltmarshes.
These ecosystems can store up to 4 times more carbon per hectare than terrestrial forests and they do it up to 50 times faster. Because of this, blue carbon ecosystems are recognized as powerful natural solutions to climate change, but only if they are protected and restored. If allowed to degrade this stored carbon can be released back into the atmosphere.
Come and learn about, and see the saltmarshes we have here in the Canning River tidal flats and how these once underappreciated ecosystems are being restored by SERCUL and its stakeholders. Learn about their role in climate regulation, biodiversity conservation and shoreline resilience and how together we can protect and restore these natural carbon sinks.
