Celebrate Australia Day by the river in 2026

The City of Canning is inviting the community to come together for a relaxed and inclusive celebration at the Australia Day Family Fun Day 2026, taking place on Monday 26 January from 9am to 2pm at Shelley Beach Foreshore.

Australia Day Family Fun Day is a free, family-friendly and dog-friendly community event, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy a morning by the river with activities, entertainment and experiences for all ages, including four-legged family members.

Mayor Patrick Hall said the event was about celebrating community connection in a welcoming outdoor setting.

“Australia Day Family Fun Day is a chance for our community to come together in a relaxed and inclusive way.”

“It’s about spending time with family, friends and neighbours, enjoying our beautiful foreshore and celebrating the community spirit that makes the City of Canning such a great place to live,” Mayor Hall said.

A highlight of the event is the much-loved Puppy Parade, where dogs of all shapes and sizes are invited to take part in a fun parade along the foreshore. Dog registrations will take place at the stage between 10am and 11am, or until capacity is reached, with the parade starting at approximately 11.30am.

The event will also feature a range of free activities for children and families, animal encounters, live entertainment, food trucks, a citizenship ceremony and the announcement of the City of Canning Community Citizen of the Year Award winners.

Australia Day Family Fun Day 2026 is supported by Perth Airport and delivered with grant funding from the Plastic Free Riverpark Program and the National Australia Day Council, helping ensure the event remains free, sustainable and accessible for the whole community.

The event is non-ticketed, with no bookings required. Attendees are encouraged to plan ahead, carpool or use public transport where possible due to limited parking.
