City of Canning unveils upgrades at Riverton Leisureplex
26 November 2025

The City of Canning is proud to announce the successful completion of several key refurbishment projects at Riverton Leisureplex, delivering significant upgrades that will enhance accessibility, comfort and safety. With an investment of $3 million, these improvements will ensure the facility continues to meet the needs of the growing community.

The upgrades will benefit a wide range of users including physiotherapy groups, the City’s swim school, families, wellness patrons and general members.

Significant enhancements have been made throughout the wellness centre and program pool, including a new pool liner, retiling of the spa and regrouting the steam room, refurbished family and baby change rooms, improved ventilation and temperature control, new anti-slip flooring and a rejuvenated sauna. The precinct has also been visually refreshed with updated signage and a mural celebrating emerging young swimmers from the community.

The female pool deck changerooms have been completely rebuilt and feature modern new tiling and fixtures, as well as improved shower and changing spaces.

Accessibility upgrades include an enhanced universal access toilet, temperature-controlled shower facilities and a new high-capacity hot water system delivering more than four times the previous output.

The first aid room has also been refurbished to improve privacy and functionality, and visitors will experience improved airflow and climate control throughout the foyer and function areas.

Mayor Patrick Hall said the works reaffirm the City’s commitment to delivering high-quality, community-focused recreation infrastructure.

“Riverton Leisureplex plays an important role in the everyday lives of our residents, from swim school families and seniors attending wellness programs to physio groups, community organisations and regular gym users. These upgrades ensure the facility remains welcoming, inclusive and fit for purpose for many years to come.”

He said that while many of the improvements can be seen throughout the revitalised spaces, a significant portion of the investment was directed toward essential infrastructure supporting the centre behind the scenes.

“A large portion of the work isn’t immediately visible, with more than $1 million dollars directed toward essential behind-the-scenes upgrades including pumps, liners and a custom hot water system. These improvements may be out of sight, but they make a real difference to the comfort, safety and reliability our community depends on,” Mayor Hall said.

Mayor Hall also thanked members and visitors for their patience throughout the renovation period.

“We recognise that renovations can be disruptive, and we sincerely appreciate the understanding shown by our community,” he said.

“The improvements now delivered will significantly enhance the experience for everyone who uses the Leisureplex.”
