Hundreds of art lovers explored the City of Canning over the weekend for the first-ever Canning Art Studio Trail (CAST) with fans traversing the City of Canning to enjoy some stunning artwork by the City’s acclaimed and emerging artists.
The inaugural trail, held Saturday 17 to Sunday 18 May, connected visitors with more than 30 talented artists at 11 creative spaces across Canning.
City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall was one of the many art lovers who attended the event and was impressed by what he saw.
“It was wonderful to experience the hospitality of the artists of Canning,” he commented. “These talented artists generously opened their homes and studios to provide a rare behind-the-scenes look at their processes and artwork.
“The art hubs, such as the Canning Arts Group and Canning River Eco Education Centre provided an opportunity for visitors to explore various forms of art, view artists at work and even try their hand at pottery.
“The weather was perfect for exploring our beautiful City and the standard of artwork was outstanding”.
Mayor Hall declared the City’s first foray into an arts trail a success and expressed his hope that it would become an annual event.
“Art plays such an important role in our society,” he explained. “The Canning Art Studio Trail has helped to connect our artists with art fans and provided a platform for them to showcase their work.
“We have learned a lot from this first CAST and we will consult with the artists and patrons to plan the best way forward for an event that has the potential to become a key date on the annual calendar.”
Canning Arts Group president Jill Archibald was delighted by the turnout at the Canning Arts Centre on Riley Road, in Riverton.
“We’ve never had an open day, so it was wonderful to see so many new faces,” she explained. “It was a great opportunity for us to showcase the Canning Arts Centre as a community venue where members and visitors can enjoy art classes and pursue their passion.”
