Songs, stories and sunshine, Rhymes by the River is back!

The City of Canning will host their annual Rhymes by the River event on Wednesday 21 January from 9am – 10am at Kent Street Weir in Wilson.

Aimed at children aged 0 – 5 years old, this free event encourages families from the Canning Community to come along and celebrate our diverse community, whilst highlighting the importance of early pre-literacy skills.

Attendees will sing and learn together with a mix of English and Noongar rhymes lead by local families and the Canning Libraries team.

After the session a light morning tea will be provided, offering participants the chance to connect with others in the vibrant Canning community.

Mayor Patrick Hall said Rhymes by the River is a wonderful way to promote early literacy and support young families in our community.

“It meets the growing demand for early literacy sessions beyond school holidays programs, celebrates our diversity, and showcases our beautiful community spaces.

“Most importantly, it highlights simple pre-literacy skills that parents can easily practice at home,” Mayor Patrick Hall said.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a hat, suncream and a drink bottle as this is an outdoor event.
