Strength for Life
The Council on Ageing WA's Strength for Life program is available at Cannington and Riverton Leisureplex.
Strength for Life offers senior fitness services for those aged 50 and over.
The program focuses on getting seniors into the gym and having them complete a structured strength routine. It is modified to meet their needs. The program aims to provide a fun, friendly, and relaxed environment.
Before commencing the program, a full doctor's clearance and physical assessment with our fitness team are required.
At Cannington, you’ll be provided a personalised workout plan and instructed on the correct technique.
Activities
- Morning and afternoon gym sessions with a trainer onsite.
- Access to pools, spa, sauna, and steam room.
- Aqua Aerobics classes.

Access to gym and pools – Monday to Friday from 8am to 11am and 1pm to 4pm.
Supervised gym workouts – Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am to 10am.
Cost
- Casual passes available from $7.80 per single entry, with multi passes and memberships available.
- Participants seeking HBF rebates must attend the supervised workouts held within the gym (gate entry must occur at the session commencement time). Supervised workouts are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am to 10am. Please contact HBF or your alternative health insurance provider for more information about your eligibility.
- Casual and multi passes can only be used for gym and class access.
At Riverton, you’ll be provided a personalised workout plan and instructed on the correct technique.

- Download and complete the participant forms:
- Take the Doctor Referral Letter to your local GP and have them complete the medical participant form.
- Once completed, contact us on 9231 0900 and book an appointment.
- On the day of your appointment, please bring all completed forms, a towel, and water bottle. Wear comfortable clothes and closed in shoes.
- Inform the trainers at the gym desk of your arrival.
- Aqua – Revitalise, Fit, Stick and Seniors Aqua Zumba – Aqua is a fun challenging low impact aqua class that will build or maintain your fitness levels in a social atmosphere. This program is suitable for all levels of fitness.
- Balance, Agility and Co-ordination – Improve your core stability, hand and eye co-ordination with creative drills and memory games. Using swiss balls, small weighted balls and various equipment.
- Get Low Konga – A low-impact take on the signature Konga workout, combining dance, boxing, cardio, and sculpting in a fun, easy-to-follow routine. High energy, low impact—great for all fitness levels.
- Strength Power and Endurance – A modified circuit style class which can consist of anything from weights, boxing and even senior friendly boot camps. A great team building session!
- Stretching Master Class – Stretch Therapy is a safe and extremely efficient way to improve your flexibility. Includes stretching, strengthening, neural re-patterning and relaxation. The goal?... To feel grace and ease in movement.
- Seniors Pilates – Pilates improves your body’s core strength, flexibility, and awareness. It also helps support efficient, graceful movement.Suitable for all ability levels.
- Stretch – Stretch helps you find new stretching techniques and achieve greater flexibility. Stretching is a vital component of fitness,as it can help reduce injuries and boost the effectiveness of your workouts.
- Group Games and Fun Day – This session is all about teamwork, moving your body and having fun! With modified and safe games which can include badminton, volleyball, soccer, hockey and many more exciting games.
- Pickleball – Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong using a paddle and plastic ball with holes. It is a game that is appropriate for players of all ages and skill levels.
- Tai Chi – Tai Chi is a martial art practice that involves slow gentle movements and physical postures. Tai Chi will benefit yourbalance, coordination and flexibility.
- Zumba Gold – A lower-intensity version of classic Zumba, tailored for active older adults or beginners. With easy-to-follow moves, it’s a fun way to boost balance, flexibility, coordination, and heart health—a great entry-level workout.
