In November 2022, the City of Canning Council has given the green light for construction to begin on the $2 million upgrade of Hossack Park Pavilion in Parkwood, with the works aiming to create an equal playing field for male and female players of all abilities.

The upgrade includes a raft of accessibility improvements, as well as a building extension, to cater to the growing membership base of the Pavilion’s three resident sporting clubs.

The refurbished pavilion will feature upgraded change rooms to cater for female players, including lockable individual showers and more toilet cubicles.

The building will be extended to allow for additional storage and a new umpire change room, first aid room and club meeting room, as well as provision of an all-weather shelter area for spectators.

Accessibility improvements include additional accessible shower facilities, an upgrade of the existing universal access toilets to meet compliance standards and improving functionality and layout of the existing toilets.

Sports lighting has been converted to energy efficient LEDs, with lower lighting fixtures installed to provide passive lighting for dog walkers and exercisers.

There will bring numerous benefits, including energy efficiency, brighter and safer streets, and lower maintenance costs.

The new lights will provide better visibility and safety for motorists and pedestrians during the evening hours, and we also believe that brighter streetscapes will contribute to reducing crime.

Not only will the new LED sports lighting help improve the experience for both players on the field, and fans, but the LED lights on our reserves can be reduced to a lower lux at different times during the week to provide ambient low-cost lighting for people wanting to exercise in the evening, or to walk their dogs.

Overall, the City’s focus on improved lighting demonstrates its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents while prioritising sustainable solutions for the future.
