Some things can’t be automatically renewed:

  • Items requested by another customer.
  • Items that have already been renewed twice.
  • Books from our Most Wanted collection.
  • Items supplied via Inter-Library Loan.
  • eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines.
  • Items with overdue notices.
  • Auto-renewals will not be available if any overdue items or charges are owing on your library account.

The library is currently unable to accept donations of any materials other than jigsaw puzzles.

Canning community members often generously offer to donate books and items to the libraries. Due to the restrictions in resourcing to assess, catalogue and process donations, as well as need for items to be in 'as new' condition, Canning Libraries generally doesn't accept donated items.

Customers are recommended to donate to:

  • local charitable organisations
  • Little Street Libraries
  • Hillview Community Languages Book Swap.

Want a space for quiet study, meetings, reading or thinking? Our small meeting rooms are for you!

Riverton and Willetton Libraries have rooms for walk-in use for up to 2 hours at a time. Please keep the space tidy and allow other library users to use the space once the 2 hours is up.

If you use this room you are agreeing to the above terms.

To help protect books and public computers from damage, we please ask everybody to follow these simple steps when eating and drinking in our spaces:

  • No food at the public computers. This helps us prevent damage to equipment and maintain cleanliness.
  • Only drinks with lids are allowed at the public computers. You are welcome to bring in drinks with close tops, such as water bottles or beverages with take-away coffee lids.
  • Food is allowed in the libraries if it is dry and odourlessIf you have a warm meal (e.g. hot chips), we kindly ask that they enjoy it in one of our many undercover outdoor seating areas adjacent to the library. This helps in keeping the library clean and free from strong food odours.
  • Water fountains for refilling bottles are available in the Library or adjoining Leisureplex. Kindly ask staff for directions.

We are dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming environment for people of all ages.

For our youngest members, guidelines are in place to ensure their safety. Responsibility for monitoring the safety of children in the library, primarily rests with the parent/caregiver.

  • Children under the age of 12 years must be supervised by a guardian at all times while in a City of Canning Library (siblings 16 years + are deemed suitable to supervise).
  • We ask guardians to remain with children under the age of 8 in activity areas for the duration of events.
  • Children who do not meet the required age for specific activities/events may have their ticket cancelled.
