Nuisance dogs

Important information

  • The City will respond to complaints about nuisance dogs.
  • By law, a dog is considered a nuisance when it:
    • barks so much that it unreasonably disrupts someone's peace, comfort or convenience
    • is shown to be allowed to behave consistently in a manner contrary to the general interest of the community
    • makes a noise, by barking or otherwise, that exceeds a prescribed noise level or number of times
  • If possible, talk to your neighbour before you lodge a complaint and politely explain your concerns.
  • If this is not possible or talking to your neighbour doesn't help, please log a request using the Report a Nuisance Dog button below.
  • As part of a formal complaint investigation, you will need to complete a Nuisance Dog Evidence Diary. The diary will be provided to you after you submit your report.

Report

  • To report a nuisance dog, please click the Report button below.
  • An Officer will take action within the next 48 hours.
  • As a Nuisance Dog Evidence Diary needs to be completed as part of a Nuisance Animal report, the City can't investigate a nuisance dog complaint if you wish to remain anonymous.
  • If you are unable to find the correct address when submitting the request, please contact us.

For information about nuisance cats, please call the City of Canning on 1300 422 664.
