Wild birds causing a nuisance

The City will investigate instances of wild birds causing a nuisance with rubbish and bins, or if people are feeding wild birds.

Wild birds attracted to rubbish

The City will respond to issues with the storage of rubbish at food businesses and shopping centres (e.g. bins overflowing or left open which are attracting birds due to the food source).

The City's Environmental Health team will contact the food business or shopping centre to discuss better waste management and to keep bins closed so that they don't attract wild birds.

To report wild birds attracted to rubbish, please complete the Report wild birds attracted to rubbish form.

Feeding wild birds

The City's Environmental Health team do not have power under the local laws, or health laws, to take enforcement action against people feeding wild birds.

Further information on why you should not feed wild animals can be found on the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions website.

The City's Conservation team may be able to assist with persistent issues relating to the feeding of wild birds through an educational approach. To report a persistent issue please complete the Report the feeding of wild birds form.
