Satellite dish complaints
The City will investigate non-compliant satellite dishes in residential areas.
When is approval NOT required?
As per City policy LP.04 Exemptions from Development Approval, development approval is NOT required for the installation of satellite dishes, microwave antennae and radio masts or other low impact facilities that satisfy the following requirements:
- there are no other existing satellite dishes, microwave antennae or radio masts on the subject lot
- in the case of satellite dishes in residential areas, the maximum diameter is less than 1 metre and is not located within any of the street setbacks and in non-residential areas the maximum diameter is 2 metres
- in the case of microwave antennae, the maximum diameter is 1 metre or less, the antennae does not project higher than 3 metres above the ridge line of the building and is not utilised to transmit electromagnetic waves
- in the case of radio masts, the height does not exceed 8 metres, the radio mast is not less than 6 metres from any of the lot boundaries and the dimension of the antennae does not exceed 6 metres and is fully contained within the subject lot
- where the structure involves Amateur (Ham) Radio Equipment is less than 10 metres above natural ground level and is setback no less than 4 metres from any lot boundaries.

Report
- To raise a complaint about a satellite dish, please complete the report form.
- A City officer will action the request within five working days. This includes contacting you to clarify the nature of the complaint, checking on any possible safety risks for City staff and explaining the complaint process.
- Contact details are required when lodging this type of issue to ensure a proper investigation can be completed. It also provides the City with the ability to clarify information to ensure officers have a safe working environment. Personal information is not disclosed to any person without consent.
