Overhanging branches from private trees

The City will respond to overhanging branches from private trees or shrubs if they are causing a hazard or obstruction when overhanging the verge, footpath or roadway.

If this request relates to a tree overhanging neighbouring properties, this is a civil issue that cannot be resolved by the City. Contact Legal Aid on 1300 650 579 for advice and assistance.

Response process

If the tree or shrub is growing on a private property, the City will follow-up with the property owner to request they prune it.

This involves writing to the owner and following defined timeframes. This type of request can take a number of weeks to resolve.
