Tree planting request
Residents can lodge requests for a tree to be planted, however requests for trees on a verge will only be considered in consultation with the owner of the adjacent property.
2026 Street Tree Planting Requests now open
The City offers free street trees to residents to help green and cool our suburbs. If you’d like a tree planted on the verge in front of your property, please read the information below and follow the links to submit your request.
Request a particular species
A resident can request a particular type of tree species, however the City will ultimately choose a species appropriate to its tree planting program.
If there is room on the verge for more than one tree, this option may be possible.
What happens with the request?
After you've submitted your request for a new tree:
- Tree planting requests are assessed according to location, the species availability and resources as per our Trees in Streets, Thoroughfares and Parks policy.
- An Officer will assess the request and respond.
- New street trees are planted in the cool months, after the rains have started.
- New trees will be watered and maintained by the City for the first two summers.
How can you help?
Additional care by residents is greatly appreciated and will help assist plant survival and growth. To help, you can:
- provide additional water for trees in the summer months
- keep grass away from the base of developing trees
- avoid damaging trees when mowing lawns
- report damaged trees to the City so that replacements can be arranged
- avoid parking too close to the tree.
Request
- To request a new tree for your verge, please complete the request form.
- An officer will contact you via email, when trees have been secured for the following winter's planting. This typically occurs in November each year.
