On-demand bulk household waste collection

The City has introduced an on-demand skip service to replace traditional bulk household waste (junk) verge collections. Residents can book two skip bin services each financial year at a time that suits them.

Important information

  • Residents can make a booking for an on-demand bulk household waste service (skip bin) for a day that suits them.
  • Residential addresses are entitled to two (2) free skip bins per financial year.
  • Residents can request a skip bin at any time. The number of services per day are limited, please make sure you book in advance to secure your preferred date. Skips are allocated on a first come first served basis and you can book up to 11 months in advance.
  • If booking a service occurring in the next financial year, it will count towards your allocation for the next financial year.

Request a skip bin

Check your verge before ordering

Before you order your skip bin, please check your verge has enough room to fit a skip bin. Conditions:

  • Skip bins will generally be placed on the verge belonging to the booked address.
  • Skip bins are 1.8 metres long, 1.65 metres wide and 1.2 metres high and require sufficient room on the verge. Please note that all dimensions are approximations and sizes may vary slightly. Each skip bin holds at least 3 cubic metres.
  • Bins cannot be placed on private property.
  • Driveway placements will only be considered for properties with insufficient verge space and if the resident completes a waiver.

Accepted items

The following items can be placed in skip bins:

  • furniture
  • timber
  • sports equipment
  • floor coverings
  • bulky general junk
  • empty and degassed hot water systems.

The following items can not be placed in skip bins:

  • asbestos or anything containing asbestos
  • building materials like bricks, rubble, concrete and sand
  • commercial / trade waste
  • e-waste (please take to the Ranford Road Resource Recovery and Waste Transfer Station)
  • gas bottles of any size
  • glass sheeting / windows / doors / furniture with embedded glass or mirrors
  • green waste and food
  • hazardous waste
  • liquids of any kind, including paint
  • mattresses (please book a mattress collection)
  • mirrors
  • motor vehicle parts, including batteries
  • tyres
  • white goods (please book a white goods collection)
  • oversized items that cannot be placed in the skip bin without exceeding the fill line (if your item is oversized and cannot fit in the skip bin, please refer to the oversized item collection page.

Skip bin timeframes

Your skip will generally stay on your verge for two evening and one full day. See the table below for delivery / collection schedules:

Frequently asked questions

To request an on-demand bulk household collection service book online, phone 1800 841 066, or book in-person at the City of Canning Administration Building (1317 Albany Hwy, Cannington). Once a booking has been confirmed, residents will receive their bin between the hours of 6am to 6pm on their selected day.

Residents can break oversized items down, so they fit under the waterline of the skip, request an on-demand oversized item collection (see section below) or use the services of the Ranford Road Resource Recovery and Waste Transfer Station (RRWTS) to dispose of items that don't fit into the skip bin using the Waste Transfer Station passes provided with their rates notice. Please note items heavier than 400kgs attract a fee.

We understand that some properties may not have suitable verge space for a skip bin to be serviced. If you believe this is the case for your property, please contact

Veolia Environmental Services on 1800 841 066 so that we can arrange an individual assessment and an alternative arrangement.

If you or your loved one is unable to load a skip bin, please contact City of Canning on 1300 422 664.

Please contact the City's Coordinator of Waste Operations on 1300 422 664 so that we can arrange an individual assessment and confirm access with your strata. Please let us know who your strata manager is when you call so we can liaise with them.

You can cancel your skip booking by following these steps:

  1. Visit Veolia's booking portal.
  2. Type the booked address into the address bar and select submit.
  3. Click on the red 'CANCEL' button to the right of the booking details displayed.

Alternatively, call Veolia Environmental Services on 1800 841 066 to cancel your booking.

Skip bookings cancelled within 48 hours of the delivery date will forfeit one skip bin or oversized item allocation.

  • Skip bins are intended for items in poor condition. If you have quality items, consider giving them to family or friends, donating them to op shops, offering them through your local Buy Nothing Facebook group, or selling them.
