City of Canning residents can claim rebates on the purchase of solar panels, reusable nappies, reusable sanitary items, reusable incontinence products, composting and worm farming equipment, as well as repair services for furniture and household items, electronic appliances, textiles and footwear. All rebates are provided to help make it more affordable to go green. Sustainable products and services may cost a little more up-front, but in the long term they can save you – and the planet – much more.
To be eligible to apply for a rebate you must:
- Be aged 18 years or over
- Live within the City of Canning local government area (residential only e.g. tenants and owner occupiers can apply, but businesses and their employees are not eligible at this time)
For the Rooftop Solar Rebate:
- Apartment blocks are not eligible
- Landlords are eligible to apply for solar installation on rental properties located within the City of Canning
For all rebates (with the exception of the rooftop solar rebate), the City will accept multiple rebate applications per household, up to the maximum rebate limit per category. To be eligible to receive a rebate, your sustainable product or service must have been purchased, installed or undertaken from 1 July 2025.

Solar panels
- Eligible items include: solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays provided by a New Energy Tech Consumer Code (NETCC) Approved Seller and installed by an installer accredited under Solar Accreditation Australia. The applicant property must not have an existing solar PV system installed. Excludes solar hot water systems, solar pool heating systems, and replacement of existing broken or faulty solar panels / inverter.
- Rebate: $500, or $700 for concession card holders.
Home composting and worm farming equipment
- Eligible items include: compost bins, compost tumblers, aerators, waste fermentation systems for example Bokashi, including fermentation mix, worm farms, worm tubes, composting worms and chickens. Find out which composting system is right for you.
- The inclusion of chickens as eligible composting equipment is being trialled in 2025/26 for a limited number of rebates.
- To keep poultry you must comply with the City’s Animal, Nuisance and Environment Local Law 2021.
- Rebate: 50% of the purchase price with a maximum rebate of $60.
Reusable sanitary products
- Eligible items include: reusable sanitary pads, menstrual cups and discs, period underwear, period swimwear and wet bags.
- Rebate: 50% of the purchase price with a maximum rebate of $50.
Reusable incontinence underwear
- Eligible items include: reusable incontinence underwear and wet bags.
- Rebate: 50% of the purchase price with a maximum rebate of $100.
Reusable cloth nappies
- Eligible items include: the purchase or hire of reusable cloth and swim nappies, reusable inner liners for nappies, reusable wipes, pilchers, wet bags and reusable nursing breast pads.
- Rebate: 50% of the purchase price with a maximum rebate of $100.
Furniture and household item repair services
- Eligible services include: repair services for household furniture and items such as tables, chairs, sofas, freestanding cabinets, freestanding bookcases, bikes, musical instruments and jewellery. Excludes built-in household fixtures, cars and parts for DIY repairs.
- Rebate: 50% of the purchase price with a maximum rebate of $100.
Electronic appliance repair services
- Eligible services include: repair services for domestic electronic appliances such as mobile phones, computers and tablets, televisions, audio/visual equipment, vacuum cleaners, coffee makers, hair dryers, watches and white goods (e.g., refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers). Excludes household fixtures or built-in appliances, cars and parts for DIY repairs.
- Rebate: 50% of the purchase price with a maximum rebate of $100.
Textile repair services
- Eligible services include: repair services for clothing and other domestic textiles like sleeping bags and linen. Excludes fixed textile installations such as carpets, and parts for DIY repairs.
- Rebate: 50% of the purchase price with a maximum rebate of $100.
Footwear repair services
- Eligible services include: repair services for all types of footwear, including shoes, boots, and sandals. Excludes parts for DIY repairs.
- Rebate: 50% of the purchase price with a maximum rebate of $100.

- Name of the customer and/or invoice number.
- Item name(s) (underline/highlight if multiple items on receipt).

Proof of purchase of second-hand item(s) in the form of the following:
- Copy of correspondence between buyer and seller.
- Copy of bank statement showing transaction (private details redacted).
- Purchase date (must be on or after 1 July 2025).
AND
Proof of residence in the form of one of the following:
- Rates notice from the past 12 months (must be provided if applying for the rooftop solar rebate as the owner of the property).
- Utility bill from the past 12 months.
- A current driver’s license.
Solar Rebate Only:
- Provision of a Small-Scale Technology (SCT) Assignment Form or Certificate of Compliance and installers Solar Accreditation Australia accreditation number.
- At least 2 photos of your solar inverter and rooftop solar.
- Letter of consent from landlord (if tenant).
- Valid concession card (if claiming concession rebate).

If an applicant does not have computer or mobile phone access, applications can be completed by a carer, family member or with customer service staff at the City of Canning Civic Centre, 1317 Albany Highway, Cannington. Please note, copies of proof of purchase and residence will still need to be provided. Alternatively, please call on 1300 422 664 to make other arrangements.

Submit an Application Form and required attachments. Click ‘Apply Now’ to submit an application form. - Receive your sustainability rebate
If your form is approved by the City, you will receive your rebate via electronic bank transfer from Rebately. Be sure to check your junk mailbox for your rebate approval email. Add claims@rebately.co to your email contacts to ensure you receive your claim status updates.
- Payment of a rebate is not guaranteed and is subject to the approval and availability of rebate funding. Applicants will be advised in writing whether their rebate application has been successful.
- Payment of successful rebate applications will be made via electronic transfer to the applicants nominated bank account within four weeks of notification of a successful application.
- Once funding for the City of Canning Rebates Program is exhausted, the City will not provide any further rebates and will not accept new applications until the start of the following Financial Year.
