For the forth year in a row, as part of Safety Month, the City of Canning has partnered with Cobra Martial Arts to offer residents free women's self defence workshops.
Cobra is a friendly, family orientated, Freestyle or Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) school, where the teachings of practical self defence, character and personal development, self discipline, respect for self and others, and health and fitness, have been their priorities for over 30 years.
The workshop will include:
- awareness and threat analysis
- breathing techniques to help control fear
- strong communication and body language for threat diffusion
- safe striking (e.g. using a palm strike instead of a punch which could injure your wrist)
- defence against the most common standing grabs and restraints (arm grabs, head locks, grabs from behind)
- how to escape from underneath the body of an attacker
- practical scenario role-play from standing to ground
- open question time.
What to wear and bring
- comfortable, non-restricting clothing
- remove loose jewellery
- a water bottle.
Please note that whilst this is a women's only workshop, male trainers will be present.
