Canning Celebrates International Day of People with Disability
20 November 2023

The City of Canning is proud to announce a week-long series of free events and activities to celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) from 1 to 10 December.

This initiative is a collaborative effort between government bodies, schools, organisations, community groups, businesses, and individuals, reflecting a collective commitment to fostering inclusivity and support for people with disabilities.

Mayor Patrick Hall has expressed enthusiasm about IDPwD week saying that he is delighted to see the Canning community come together to celebrate the International Day of People with Disability.

“This week-long initiative embodies the spirit of unity and inclusivity, showcasing the dedication of our community, and individuals to create a more accessible and equitable world for people with disabilities.” said Mayor Patrick Hall.

The theme for IDPwD 2023 carries the powerful message, 'United in action to rescue and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for, with, and by persons with disabilities.' This theme emphasises the importance of joint efforts in making the world a better and fairer place for everyone, regardless of their abilities.

This year’s IDPwD Week activities include:

  • Free entry for people with a disability to Riverton and Cannington Leisureplex facilities.
  • Fun and inclusive activities for everyone such as Basketball on Wheels, Fit4All programs and visit support organisations at Cannington Leisureplex.
  • Get inspired and try a cooking class or get involved in an art workshop at our learning hubs.
