Canning Swim School Honoured with National Award for Outstanding Community Service
The City of Canning Swim School has been recognised on the national stage, receiving the 2025 SWIM Coaches and Teachers Australia Outstanding Community Service Award of Excellence.
This prestigious accolade celebrates the swim school’s strong commitment to inclusion, innovation, and community impact through its diverse aquatic programs and partnerships. From newcomer integration to workforce development, Canning Swim School has created meaningful pathways into swimming for individuals and communities who may otherwise be excluded.
Through collaborations with organisations including Zonta House, Communicare, and Royal Life Saving WA, the swim school has delivered programs that prioritise cultural inclusion, accessibility, and lifelong water confidence.
Highlights of the award-winning initiatives include:
- Women’s Wellness Program – a culturally inclusive, female-only initiative offering swimming, aqua fitness, and wellness services for women from diverse backgrounds.
- Zonta House Partnership – private swimming lessons for women, supported by inclusive planning and full financial access.
- Communicare’s Welcoming Journey – water safety and pool orientation for newly arrived migrants and refugee families.
Mayor Patrick Hall said the award is a proud moment for the community.
“This award is a reflection of the City’s vision to create welcoming spaces and opportunities for all. Our Swim School team has gone above and beyond to ensure people from every background can feel safe, confident, and supported in the water. I could not be prouder of the role they play in strengthening inclusion and wellbeing in our community.” he said.
Jordi Sullivan, Swim School Team Leader, said the award reflects the heart of the swim school’s mission. She commented that this recognition is a tribute to every staff member who brings empathy, expertise, and care to the programs. It’s also a celebration of Canning’s community partnerships, which allow the team to reach people who are in need and to create safe, inclusive spaces for everyone.
The award also highlights the City of Canning’s broader commitment to excellence across its Leisureplex facilities. With a growing suite of specialist programs, this is the second award that has been presented to the Canning Swim School, as it continues to lead the way in making aquatic education accessible, empowering, and life-changing.
