Celebrating Seniors Week in Canning
06 November 2023

The City of Canning will participate in WA Seniors Week with a week-long celebration from 12 to 19 November 2023.

WA Seniors Week is a time to recognise the valuable contributions older people make to the community, with a range of free health and social wellness events.

Mayor Patrick Hall said Seniors Week is an initiative that is close to his heart as both his parents have lived in Canning since 1963.

“These City-led initiatives celebrate Canning’s rich histories, provides fun and creative ways to involve the senior community to connect with like-minded people.

"With a range of activities and workshops, there is something for everyone to enjoy. We encourage all seniors in the community to come along, participate, and enjoy a week filled with engaging experiences and opportunities for social interaction." said Mayor Patrick Hall.

This year’s Seniors Week activities include:

  • Free entry for seniors with a valid senior card to Riverton and Cannington Leisureplex facilities
  • Free workshops like Lego for Seniors, Scam Prevention sessions, Grandparents Storytime and Social Singing, held at Canning Libraries and Learning Hubs.
  • Seniors can also embark on adventurous Trishaw Rides at Kent Street Weir
  • Try out new active classes such as Zumba, Tai Chi at our participating senior and neighbourhood centres and visit the Willetton Rotary Artisan Markets on Sunday, 12 November.

As part of the Senior's Week festivities, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Michael Verde, an internationally renowned writer, speaker, documentary producer, and esteemed thought leader in the field of dementia care.

Residents are also encouraged to explore new activities at the Seniors Centres, located at Queens Park, Herald Avenue, and Rostrata Family and Neighbourhood Centre, where a vibrant sense of community is fostered and supported by the City of Canning.
