Entries Now Open for the 2025 Canning Art Awards
28 July 2025

The City of Canning is once again calling on Perth’s artistic community to submit works for the 2025 Canning Art Awards which represents one of the City’s most anticipated and celebrated cultural events.

Running since 2000, the Awards have become a significant platform for emerging and established artists alike, highlighting the incredible diversity and depth of talent across Western Australia. With entries now open from 4 August to 22 August, artists aged 12 years and over are invited to submit works in a range of traditional and contemporary categories.

This year sees the addition of two new standalone categories – Painting on Canvas and Painting on Paper – giving artists more clarity and opportunity to showcase their preferred medium. Other categories include Drawing, 3D Sculpture/Textile, Mixed Media, Photography, and Digital Art.

A generous prize pool of over $13,500 is on offer in 2025, with cash prizes awarded to both Adult and Young Artist categories, along with three additional major awards:

  • $1000 awarded to winners of each of the seven Adult Categories
  • $500 awarded to winners of each of the seven Young Artist Categories (for ages 12–17)
  • $1000 awarded for the City of Canning Resident Award, People’s Choice Award, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Artist Award

Mayor Patrick Hall said the Awards remain a key initiative in supporting and celebrating local artists of all backgrounds and experience levels.

“Each year, we’re inspired by the quality, creativity and bold storytelling that artists bring to the Canning Art Awards,” Mayor Hall said.

“This event gives local and emerging artists, especially our young people the opportunity to present their work in a professional gallery setting, gain public exposure, and potentially take home well-deserved recognition and prize money.”

All entries will be exhibited at Riverton Library and professionally curated at the Canning Arts Award Opening Night on 26 September. The exhibition will be open for public viewing during library opening hours, from Saturday 27 September to Saturday 4 October, 10am – 3pm daily (closed Monday).

Adult category artworks will be available for purchase throughout the exhibition, offering guests a chance to support local artists and take home a one-of-a-kind piece. Visitors can also vote in person for the People’s Choice Award, which will be announced at the end of the exhibition.
