
The City of Canning's Art Awards is an annual event on the City's calendar and provides upcoming and professional artists with the opportunity to exhibit their work in the wider community, with the potential to win a cash prize.
This free entry seven-day exhibition at the Riverton Library, showcases some of Western Australia’s best artists, several of which are local to Canning. Professionally curated and judged, the exhibition provides visitors with a diverse display of high calibre artworks across a range of categories. The 2025 Art Awards accepts the first 200 entries that meet the Entry Terms and Conditions.
Presentation of Awards and Official Opening Night

Tickets
- Artists who have submitted artwork are free of charge and guests/the public are chargeable at $24.75 per person.
- Tickets must be booked for ALL attendees (free and chargeable) for catering purposes.
- Tickets are limited to 3 per person maximum.

Unsold Artwork Collection

- You will be advised prior if your artwork sold during the exhibition.
*Times may be subject to minor revision. All applicants will be notified of these revisions via the email address supplied on the entry form.
Exhibition Sales Desk
Most artworks on display (except for some Young Artist pieces) are available to purchase. Members of the Canning Arts Group will operate the sales desk between 10am - 3pm each day, except for on Sunday. The exhibition will also give attendees a chance to vote for the People's Choice Award via the QR codes displayed throughout the Exhibition.
About our Curator
Belinda Kay
Belinda's artistic flair carries through all her work in interior design, textiles, all craft processes, and fine arts. Belinda is very enthusiastic and supportive of the West Australian arts community.
After completing her Diploma in Art and Design and a Bachelor of Fine Arts, she has been an Exhibition Curator, Gallery Manager, Studio Manager and curated many exhibitions across local government and privately run exhibition spaces.
During the last twenty years, Belinda keeps herself busy by participating in a wide range of art workshops to better understand and promote all forms of fine arts expression and has a keen interest in glass work.
Judges
Franca Maria Berti
Franca Maria Berti is an art advisor in Perth, she consults to private and corporate clients on potential acquisitions adhering to aesthetic, investment, and financial guidelines. Franca is particularly interested in learning of the artists process and the evolution of their practice, regularly interviewing contemporary Australian artists.
Franca has completed her undergraduate studies at The University of Western Australia in The History of Art, she then went on to complete her Honours in Art History. Her dissertation took a close look at the performative nature of Édouard Manet’s work. Franca’s focus was the latter half of the 19th Century where she studied the onset of the Modernity in aspects including, architecture, philosophy, economics, society at large and its impact on Art History.

Jillian Ciemitis
Jillian Ciemitis is a West Australian based artist whose work focuses on photography and printmaking, examining issues of identity and place. Holding a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts in Visual Arts and Photomedia (Edith Cowan University), Jillian is a multi-award winning artist, notably receiving the WA Print Media Award (2012) and twice finalist in the prestigious National FAC Print Award.
Her work examines the condition of the individual through both documented and invented narratives, which she extends further by transposition on her environmental and urban imagery. Jillian’s pieces are imbued with an atmosphere and intensity, which is applied to a range of subject matter, the banal, the incidental and the secret.

Canning Arts Group is a not-for-profit self-funded community-based organisation that has been serving the community in the arts area for more than 50 years. Canning Arts Group offers Art Classes and Workshops to its members and the public including adults, children and people with disabilities and special needs.

Entrants may submit one entry only in the following categories:

- 💻 Digital Art
There will be one prize awarded for each of the categories above for both Adults and Young Artists (12-17 years).
Adult award winners will take home a $1000 cash prize.
Young Artist (aged 12-17 years) award winners will take home a $500 cash prize.

Important Entry Information
- Entry cost for Adults 18+ is $35.20
- Entry is free for Young Artists (aged 12-17 years)
- A maximum of 200 entries will be displayed in the Art Awards this year. The first 200 entries that meet the Terms and Conditions of Entry will be accepted.
- Artists are required to send a photo of their work to events@canning.wa.gov.au within seven days of registering their entry.
