Lest we forget this Anzac Day
11 April 2024

The City of Canning will commemorate those who have served, and continue to serve our nation, at the annual ANZAC Day march and service on Thursday 25 April.

In partnership with the Canning Districts Returned Services League (RSL) Sub Branch, the City of Canning invites residents to come along and be a part of this special morning.

The march will commence at 7.30am from Kent Street and will finish at the City’s Civic Amphitheatre. A memorial service will follow at 8am at 8am at the Civic Amphitheatre.

Light refreshments will be offered after the service thanks to The Canning Lions Club and Sikh Association of WA.

Deputy Mayor Amanda Spencer-Teo encourages Canning residents to come together as a community and reflect on this special day.

“Australia is a beautiful country where we can all feel safe and free, and I feel so lucky to call it home.

“ANZAC day provides us with opportunity to come together as a community, and as a nation, to reflect on the sacrifices of those people,” Deputy Mayor Spencer-Teo said.

Everyone is welcome to watch the march, attend the service or to be a part of the wreath laying ceremony.

To participate in the wreath laying please email the City’s Major Events Team at events@canning.wa.gov.au to arrange drop-off and receive instructions for the ceremonial protocols.

Road closures will take place from 7am from Kent Street, leading to a section of Fleming Avenue and then up George Street West to the entrance to the Civic Centre Amphitheatre and gardens. Small sections of Gledhill Way and Queens Park Road will also be closed while the march passes through.

For those who are up early, the Canning Districts RSL Sub Branch will also be holding a service at 6am prior to the City of Canning's Service. This service will be held at 162 Wharf St, Cannington.
