On Monday 18 December the City of Canning will take over the management of Whaleback Golf Course in Parkwood.
Whaleback Golf Course is a City-owned community facility that has been operating under the private management of Peter Hopkins for over 40 years through his company Whaleback Management Pty Ltd.
The transition will be business as usual for golfers with online bookings and facilities remaining as they currently are and many of the same friendly faces staying on.
The change in management at the golf course will enable the City to deliver upgrade and renewal works at the facility, lead to long term financial sustainability, allow the facility to be activated as a community hub and bring more people to this beautiful space in the City of Canning.
Mayor Patrick Hall said the City is looking forward to taking on the management of the golf course and recognises the level of professionalism and innovation that Peter Hopkins has managed Whaleback with over the last 40 years.
We thank Peter Hopkins for his dedication over so many years and would like to acknowledge the work that he has done to put Whaleback Golf Course firmly on the map.
“In 2024 we are looking forward to offering an increased range of food and beverage options and memberships for the local community which is very exciting,” Mayor Hall said.
Currently, Whaleback offers golfers of all ages and abilities a range of facilities including 18-holes set in beautiful parklands, state-of-the-art two storey day and night driving range which is open until 8pm, Toptracer technology in the driving range and great practice facilities for putting and bunker play.
The public are welcome to come down and enjoy a great coffee and something to eat from the Whaleback Café.
From January, lessons will also be available for those just starting out in the game or those looking to brush up on their skills.
Open to both Canning residents and the broader Perth Community, this public golf course is located just 20km from the Perth CBD in the suburb of Parkwood, conveniently located at the intersection of High Road and Nicholson Road, with easy access from the Roe Highway.
