Places Available for Hire (Halls and Community Centres)

It is a condition of hire that you maintain a compliant contact register. Please ensure all guests check-in using the SafeWA app or use a manual check-in register provided by the event organiser.

COVID-19 Update

In line with Western Australian government health directions, as of Monday 31 January 2022, proof of vaccination requirements will affect Community Venues, customers using halls for fitness, or the use of specific Function Centres that have a licensed capacity over 250 pax, are required to show proof of vaccination. The specific Function Centres include Willetton Sports & Community Centre, Riverton Bill Cole Function centre and Cannington Function centre.

The event organiser will be required to show proof of vaccine to staff upon booking, then it is the event organiser's responsibility to ensure all guests are double vaccinated upon entry. Please note random spot checks will be in place to ensure compliance.

Timeframes for applications for events

Private Events
 – 14 days (2 weeks) before your proposed event
Public Events  – 30 to 60 days (6 – 8 weeks) before your proposed event
(This is dependent on the nature of your event, our team can discuss this with you)

Application to be submitted 60 business days (12 weeks) before your proposed event
You are required to set up an initial meeting at least 80 business days (16 weeks) prior to your proposed event.
Events with a shorter planning timeframe will not be accepted.
In this initial meeting we will talk you through and provide the Application Form and the planning process, as well as discuss your event requirements.

Booking Application Form


A bond is payable for casual use of places within the City of Canning. Bonds are held against damage to the building or equipment, loss of keys, failure to secure the building or any additional charges for cleaning, repairs or other expenses incurred by the City as a result of your booking. A bond is paid prior to the event and payment will be made on collection of the key.

For casual events, the City prefers to take payment of a bond by credit card pre-authorisation. Please discuss bond payment options when you speak with the Active Places Officer on 1300 422 664.

High-risk events

A high-risk event includes 15th to 25th birthday parties or bridal party celebrations including buck’s and hen’s nights. Sporting groups and other parties where guests are mostly in the 15 to 25 age group may also be considered as high-risk events. You can conduct a high-risk event in the City of Canning, but conditions must be met prior to the City accepting a booking. Please call the Active Places Officer on 1300 422 664 to discuss your proposed event. Bookings without prior discussion will not be accepted.
