Sports and recreation clubs
The City of Canning is home to over 90 local sports and recreation clubs. These clubs provide sporting and recreational programs to all ages and are essential to a healthy, safe, and inclusive community.
The Club Development team assist and support sport and recreation clubs to develop and thrive in the community:
- Provide club support and guidance.
- Assist in club sustainability.
- Provide clubs with grants and funding opportunities.
- Strengthen relationships between the City and clubs.
Winter Cricket Pitch Availability
During the winter season, the City of Canning offers a limited number of uncovered synthetic cricket pitches available for free community use.

Community Infrastructure Strategy
The City of Canning's Community Infrastructure Strategy guides the City's planning and delivery of community infrastructure. Community infrastructure includes the building and spaces that provide services opportunities to support individuals, families and groups to meet their social needs and provide places to improve their overall health and wellbeing.

How To Guides
Rangers and Community Safety Services
Available 24 Hours a day, 7 days a week on 1300 422 664.
Both the Prendwick Reserve and Canning Vale Reserve upgrades were completed in September 2024. The facility redevelopment is designed to better serve our sporting clubs and local community.
Prendwick Reserve
The facility includes:
- gender-neutral changerooms that ensure everyone feels welcome and included
- a community social space to provide a great spot to watch sports while staying comfortable, offering a fantastic 180-degree view of the playing field
- upgraded kitchen facilities to cater to a variety of events
- ample storage for our clubs
- new public toilets for the local community – whether they’re walking their dogs, enjoying the park, or playing casual sports.

Canning Vale Reserve
Improvements to the pavilion include:
- gender-neutral changerooms that ensure everyone feels welcome and included
- new accessible shower and toilet
- upgraded kitchen kiosk facilities to cater for a variety of events
- improved meeting room/social space for hire
- ample storage for our clubs.

KidSport
KidSport enables eligible Western Australian children aged 5-18 years to participate in community sport and recreation by offering financial assistance of up to $500 per financial year towards club fees.

Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund
The Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund provide financial assistance to community groups to develop basic infrastructure for sport and recreation.

Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund
Cricket Australia, in partnership with WA Cricket, is committed to developing quality facilities the provide a welcoming environment for all participants, officials, volunteers and spectators.

The Community Grants Program, supports local organisations to deliver activities and services, including sport and recreation.

Australian Sports Commission
The Australian Sports Commission supports club development through its free online platform, Game Plan. This allows sporting clubs to get insights into their current capability in key areas of club administration, then supports ongoing club development with a suite of tools.

Australian Sports Foundation
Helping Australian sporting clubs and individuals raise funds for their sport. They provide personalised support in fundraising, advocacy, and grants.

DLGSC
DLGSC promote participation and achievement in sport and recreation to support a healthy lifestyle. They provide sport and recreation funding, the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund, KidSport, people and organisation development, support for managing a club, and training and workshops.

Every Club Hub
Every Club Hub provides access to resources, guides, training opportunities and information on how committees can improve their club. Support includes starting a new club, training and workshops, junior sport, safety and Integrity, managing complaints and conflict, and how-to guides.

Good Sports
Good Sports supports over 11,000 community sporting clubs across Australia to provide a safe and welcoming environment. They provided assistance with grants and fundraising, volunteers, safe transport, alcohol management, mental health, smoking, and drugs.

Play by the Rules
Play by the Rules provides resources, tools and free online training to increase the capacity and capability of administrators, coaches, officials, players, parents and spectators. This assists them in preventing and dealing with discrimination, harassment, child safety, inclusion and integrity issues in sport.

SportWest True Sport
SportWest provides True Sport initiatives. These initiatives feature sector-specific training, resources and implementation guidance while also allowing flexibility in delivery, catering for all sports across the seasons.
