The City of Canning Active Spaces program is focused on supporting and building the capacity of sport and recreation clubs, and connecting community members to the opportunities for sport and recreation in Canning.

Club Development

The City's Community Development Officers work with local clubs to provide information and guidance on all aspects of club development such as sponsorship, fundraising, grants, event management, strategic planning, marketing and promotion, membership, participation, volunteer management and facility development.

Facilities

The City of Canning undertakes a number of facility projects with the aim of upgrading and enhancing sporting facilities for club use. The City’s Active Spaces team also supports clubs to manage facilities whilst also supporting the process of facility developments.

The City has numerous sporting facilities and halls which can be booked by sporting clubs, community groups and members of the public.

Recreation Programs

The Community Development team hosts and supports a variety of recreation programs and events throughout the year. Events such as Bike Week, Parks Week and Disability Awareness Week are just some of the stand out dates for recreation events.

KidSport

Makes it possible for Western Australian children to participate in community sport and recreation, no matter what their financial circumstances are. KidSport allows eligible youth aged five to 18 years to apply for financial assistance towards club fees. A maximum of $150 per child is available towards the cost of fees to join a nominated sport and recreation club or to learn to swim at one of our Leisureplexes.
