Dementia Action Week, observed from 16-22 September, is a time dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of dementia, a condition that affects millions of people worldwide.
This week provides an opportunity for individuals, families, and communities to come together, learn more about the challenges faced by those living with dementia, and explore ways to offer better support.
In support of the building a dementia friendly community, the City will be running a range of programs including:
- Multicultural Memory Bags - These bags will represent the City’s main LOTE (Languages Other Than English) groups. They will be available in three different cultural bags (Chinese, Indian and Noongar) containing educational and tactile items to foster connections between carers and their recipients.
- Walking for Memory – The City will host an all abilities and dementia friendly pole walking group. Meet at Canning River Eco Estate at 9am every Friday morning.
- Forget Me Not Memory Café – A meeting point for people living with dementia and their carers at Riverton Library on every second Wednesday of the month from 1.30pm – 3.30pm.
- Dementia Friends Workshop – A workshop for the community, people living with dementia and their carers to attend to learn more about living and coping with dementia.
We invite all community members to join us in supporting this cause in creating a ‘Act Now for a Dementia-Friendly Future’.
