City is ‘All In’ for Reconciliation Week
21 May 2026

The City of Canning is gearing up for National Reconciliation Week, which runs from 27 May to 3 June, by launching a series of free reconciliation community events.

This year’s theme, which coincides with the 25-year anniversary of the launch of National Reconciliation Week, is ‘All In’ and is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day. The theme seeks to remind Australians that reconciliation will not happen without the buy-in of all who call Australia home.

“National Reconciliation Week is a time to reflect and learn about our shared history with Aboriginal peoples and work together to create a more inclusive community,” explained City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall. “We can all learn about traditional culture and our shared history.”

“The City is committed to genuine reconciliation through our Reconciliation Strategy, ensuring that indigenous voices are heard at local government level.”

Residents can join the City of Canning in celebrating National Reconciliation Week 2026 by attending one of a number of free City-led events, or by claiming their free bookmark from the City’s libraries at Willetton, Riverton and Cannington, or Canning Eco Education Centre

The series of 12 collectable bookmarks were developed in partnership with local indigenous artist Darryl Bellotti and each bookmark depicts Noongar culture along the Djarlgarro Beeliar (Canning River), with a description of the artwork on the reverse.

The bookmarks will be released monthly, and library users can collect all 12 free bookmarks over the next year to complete the full artwork of the Canning River.

The City’s National Reconciliation Week events include a Community Cultural Learning Session with Sister Kate’s Home Kids Aboriginal Corporation, a Paint the Country session with Ardent Aboriginal Arts and Assistance Community, and a week-long reconciliation art display at Riverton Library.
